Cupping without a therapist
Cupping has been used in Chinese and Middle Eastern tradition for thousands of years. The principle is simple: negative pressure draws the skin and the tissue beneath it upwards, rather than pressing down as every other kind of massage does.
Traditionally it needs glass cups, a flame to create the vacuum, and someone else to place them — which in practice means an appointment and a therapist.
CellPro does the same thing electrically. You set the cup against the skin, choose a level, and the unit creates the suction itself. One press of a button releases it.
Twelve levels, and why that matters
With traditional cups you get whatever suction the flame happens to produce. Here you set it — from a light pull you barely notice to a strong draw that visibly lifts the tissue.
That means the same unit works on the neck, where skin is thin and sensitive, and on the back and thighs where you can go considerably harder. Start low wherever you're working — cupping feels stronger than people expect the first time.
The infrared heat runs between 45 and 50 degrees and softens the tissue before the suction works. Most people find the warmth makes the whole session more comfortable.

About the marks — read this before your first go
Cupping leaves round marks on the skin. They're bruises, they're expected, and they usually fade within five to seven days. The higher the suction and the longer you stay on one spot, the more pronounced they'll be.
So plan around your calendar. If you have a wedding, a beach day or anything strapless within the week — use a low level or wait.
First time: levels one to three, five minutes maximum, and keep the unit moving. You can always go harder next time, but you can't remove a mark early.
How to use it
- Oil the skin first. Body oil or an oil-based cream — it's essential for the cup to glide rather than stick in one place.
- Set the cup against the skin and start on the lowest level.
- Keep the unit moving in slow strokes. Never stay more than a few seconds on one spot.
- Work towards the heart — upwards on the legs, inwards towards the spine on the back.
- Release with the button when you're done. Never pull the cup off by force.
- Change the filter sponge regularly — five are included.
Holding the unit still is the most common beginner's mistake. That's when you get a dark, pronounced mark that lasts over a week — the movement is the whole point.

Don't use it if
You take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder. Cupping creates bruising, and it will be more pronounced and last longer if your blood struggles to clot.
Also avoid varicose veins, vascular changes, moles, wounds, eczema, inflamed or sunburnt skin — and never directly over the spine. Avoid during pregnancy, with skin conditions, or while under treatment for serious illness. If in doubt, check with a doctor first.

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
It should feel like a distinct pull on the skin, not pain. If it hurts, the suction is too high — drop a couple of levels. On a low setting with the heat on, most people find it genuinely pleasant.
Do I have to use oil?
Yes. Without oil the cup sticks in one place instead of gliding, which gives both stronger marks and a less pleasant experience. Ordinary body oil works well.
How long do the marks show?
Usually five to seven days. A low suction level and constant movement give lighter marks that fade faster. If you have something on within the week, keep it low or wait.
Can I reach my own back?
The upper part and the shoulders, yes — the unit weighs 250 grams and is cordless. The middle between the shoulder blades is harder to reach yourself, as with any self-massage.
How often can I use it?
Let the marks fade before returning to the same area. A couple of times a week per area is reasonable for most people, and you can alternate between back, thighs and calves in between.
What do the filter sponges do?
They sit between the cup and the pump and stop oil and skin debris being drawn into the mechanism. Replace them once they're saturated — five are included.
